The issue of infertility is common nowadays and couples with the issue seeking a solution with less or no complication. Ayurveda principles raising its value at this point, where successful results can provide without any complications. The elucidation of infertility in Ayurveda extends to male sexual health and a woman who is unable to carry pregnancy to full term.

As per Ayurveda, the four essential factor for acquiring healthy pregnancy are Ritu (time of conception), Kshetra (uterine environment), Ambu (nourishment) and Beeja (sperm & ovum). When there is abnormality arises in any one of these, it will end up in infertility, which is known as Vandhyata in the Ayurveda. Through the authentic Ayurveda treatment modalities, flaws in the above factors will be resolved and their optimum attributes will be obtained.

Ritu- Time for conception

The suitable time for garbha (pregnancy) can be remarked in two ways- fertile age as well as the ovulation period. Understanding the time of ovulation and being healthy during that time is to be noted. A “calm state of mind” at the ovulation time is a key factor for conception. In the modern era of technology there is increased access to electronic gadgets, excess social media exposure, and change in nature of work with long working hours have brought hormonal changes which in turn affect the menstruation cycle. Other factors like unhealthy dietary habits, improper sleeping pattern and various stresses also contribute the changes in hormones. The mental health of couple at the time of intercourse is another prime element. According to Ayurveda sex is happiness and procreation. In so many occasions, getting pregnant remains a far away dream even for a couple who is considered clinically normal. This happens due to different psychological factors- lack of proper emotional connection between the couple and stressful lifestyle.

Kshetra- the abode of garbha

Kshetra indicate the garbhashaya which refers to the reproductive system of woman especially uterus. It is the place where garbha (foetus) lives and grows. Like a seed grows in a well conditioned field, a mother with healthy uterus nurtures the fetus along the course of pregnancy. When there is abnormality in hormones and in diseases like tubal blockage, septal defect of uterus and bicornuate uterus, it will end up in infertility. A healthy uterine environment paves way for an easy fertilization and implantation. A good condition of the endometrium with all its decidual changes will facilitate the implantation and the further development of foetus. Ayurveda doctor can advise you herbal preparations and lifestyle modifications to regulate hormones, correct the menstrual cycles and vitalize uterus.

Ambu- Nourishment

The garbha extract nourishment in the beginning from the sperm and ovum. Utilization of nutrients is required for the stages of fertilization, implantation, fetal organogenesis and placental formation. Nutritional status of mother should be in prime quality as it lines with pregnancy and directly affect the fetus. Ayurveda suggest herbal preparations and food items for garbhini (the pregnant lady). Similar explanation for the couple also can be seen under the heading of “pumsavana”, which has to follow before conceiving, through which optimum quality sperm and ovum can be generated.

Beeja- seed

The structural and functional efficiency of sperm and ovum is mentioned as beeja (seed) in Ayurveda. Genetic materials like chromosomes can be designate under beeja as it does the function of generation. The prakruti (body constitution) of an individual can be affected by wrong diet and lifestyle which in turn affects the quality of sperm/egg. Systemic diseases or infections, menstrual abnormalities, and ovarian diseases can affect the quality of the egg in women and men. Unhealthy practices like smoking and alcohol can badly affect the quality and quantity of sperm and egg. By undergoing Ayurveda detox programs, followed by Rasayana (rejuvenative therapies) and Vajikarana (aphrodisiac) you can attain supreme quality of sperm and ovum.
